Drama & Theatre

At Dwight, we offer Drama as part of the Middle Years Programme and Theatre in the Diploma Programme.

The curriculum is designed to enable students to learn about and experiment with a wide range of techniques, philosophies, genres and theatre practices from different cultures. Throughout the curriculum students are encouraged to develop their skills through research tasks, devised performances, script work, creative writing, independent, and ensemble work and workshops. In addition, students learn to apply these theatre techniques; exploring issues, feelings, points of view and global concerns.

Both the MYP Drama course and the Diploma Theatre course emphasize the importance of students working as artists to create their own original work. Consequently, there is equal emphasis on the importance of a quality creative process and on the importance of the final product. Students are encouraged to experiment with new ideas, justify their choices and work collaboratively to apply their knowledge.

Students have many opportunities to present their work to parents and the community in the throughout the year in many of our purpose-built space, whether it be our large theatre, intimate black box studio or roof-top amphitheatre.
