The arts are integral to a Dwight education. There are a variety of opportunities for students to express themselves in theatre, music, film and visual arts. Individualized learning is at the core of the arts at Dwight; we aim to foster self-confidence, a critical awareness and a deep understanding for the place of the arts in today’s contemporary society.
As part of a global community, students at Dwight learn through direct practical experiences the importance of the arts as a means of communication across a range of times and cultures. Students gain a critical awareness of world music, international trends in the creative arts and a broad appreciation for film and theatre from a global perspective.
As an IB World School, through experience, or simply “learning by doing”, the Arts are practiced in the curriculum throughout the Primary Years, Middle Years and the Diploma programmes. Students reflect on their own artistic progress through journals, written tasks and presentations designed to place the arts in a wider critical context throughout the program. Students become not only practitioners, but also develop a discerning eye, a perceptive ear and an appreciation of the arts as a cornerstone of human achievement.
Our Extra Curricular Program (ECP) further extends students capabilities, whether it be curating a whole-school Visual Arts exhibition, facilitating Dwight’s Got Talent, designing sound and lighting for school assemblies, directing a short film as part of the Dwight 24-Hour Film Festival or leading the band in our annual School Production.
